It might be helpful if you inform us about the other source Mac Firbhisigh gives for Gleeson since 444.12 is not in agreement with OÇlery, 1779: Glesan etc toDuib da tuath to Onchon ...Trian, (to Ara in N.Tipp, thence to CúCorb K of Leinster as do the O'Dwyer & O'Donagan of a different line. I believe Cork O'Glasheen became Gleeson in Cork and in south Tipp as did O'Glesáin/O'Glasáin of north Tipp in 17th cent., as Mael Seachlain became McLaughlin.ferghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16943158318618997075noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7656480992476344898.post-42327297600708166282017-05-11T01:54:25.880-07:002017-05-11T01:54:25.880-07:00Thanks Nicole. There are quite a few ancient texts that mention the Gleeson name and I am currently analysing and comparing the various sources with the aim of publishing the results some time this year. For a brief review, check out this YouTube video from our Genetic Genealogy Ireland conference last year (from 21:15 onwards) ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCHOJVOY1lcMaurice Gleesonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03920753459154271648noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7656480992476344898.post-86347165346930203312017-05-06T08:23:50.070-07:002017-05-06T08:23:50.070-07:00I found these a few years ago.

Anything earlier?

MacLysaght does not give his references but associates the Gleesons with the O'Donegans & Muskerry, Co. Cork. O'Hart mentions the Hy-MacCaille. Bart Jaski's analysis of the ancient annals give a good account of the Ui Meic Caille being a subset of the Ui Liatháin but does not mention any Gleeson originator. But MacFirbhisigh's Great Book of Irish Genealogies (O'Muraíle) has two possible sources for the Gleesons, with the Ui Liatháin source ending in the following lineage:
444.12 Gléasán from whom are the Uí Ghléasáin son of Braon son of Meisceall son of Urthuile son of Dubh Dhá Thuath son of Conaire
Maurice Gleesonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03920753459154271648noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7656480992476344898.post-85625640397486244722016-02-13T04:00:14.416-08:002016-02-13T04:00:14.416-08:00There is no doubt that there was an O'Gleeson ...There is no doubt that there was an O'Gleeson or O'Gleason or O'Glasheen, all forms occur, in Imokilly in East Cork, on record since at least the 1280s, but whether these were the eponyms of the territorial name Oglashin is another matter. Lisglasheen near Killeagh seems to have been one early family settlement.

Regards

Paul MacCotterUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16878768128549601257noreply@blogger.com
